CALIFORNIA - "Today no one can deny that Facebook has changed the way social interaction, especially among young people. What we are doing now is doing research on the positive and negative impacts of up to teenagers," said Professor Larry D Rosen from California State University.
As quoted from The Hindu on Monday (08/08/2011), Facebook has a side of benefit as well as the harm, such as an introvert who tried to socialize in the social networking site.
Social networking site has two sides, which is beneficial or detrimental for users who were aged teenagers.
Rosen said some bad effects of Facebook, including narcissism that often plague young people who use social networking sites, antisocial behavior, the tendency to behave aggressively and irritability.
The study mentioned by Rosen stated that the school children and college that opened up at least 15 minutes while learning, tend to get a low value.
But Rosen also said that the latest study also found positive effects of Facebook, for example, young adult users who spend time on Facebook is better in showing empathy to their online friends.
"Communication is the essence of being a parent. You have to talk or listen to them properly," concluded Rosen.
"In addition, social networking sites can also help introverted teenagers to learn to socialize, even if only behind the scenes. In addition, social networking sites can also help the process of teaching between teachers and students," said Rosen.
The study put forward by Rosen also said that parents should not supervise their children's online activities. "Because if you use the software watchdog will be a waste of time. Children will seek the solution in just a matter of minutes," he said.
