Facebook

Facebook is a social networking service that launched in February 2004. According to Wikipedia, in January 2011, Facebook has more than 600 million active users. The name 'up' comes from the name of the book is given to students by the university's first academic year in the U.S., with the aim of helping students get to know each other.

Now, social networking Facebook allows any person aged at least 13 years, become a user on the site. Quantcast estimates that, in May 2011, Facebook has a visitors stay in the U.S. a number of 138.9 million.

Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg with his roommate a fellow student of Computer Science, namely Eduardo Saverin, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes. hi5 is a social networking site based in San Francisco, California. The company was founded in 2003 by Ramu Yalamanchi. In 2008, comScore reported that hi5 has become a popular social networking ranked third after Facebook and MySpace, according to the calculation of the number of permanent visitors per month.

In April 2009, Bill Gossman was appointed as CEO of this company. Since then, hi5 update the concept as a social site based gaming. hi5 also open ourselves to new game developers. Game industry veteran, Alex St. John, joined hi5 as President of the Company. In 2010, hi5 social gaming company acquired the Big Six. Quantcast reported, hi5 has 2.7 million regular visitors per month in the U.S., and 46.1 million at the global level.

Orkut

Orkut is a social networking site owned and operated by Google Inc.. The name 'Orkut' is taken from its creator, Google employee named Orkut Buyukkokten. Although Orkut is not too popular in the U.S. compared with similar competitors such as Facebook and MySpace, but Orkut is one of the most visited sites in India and Brazil. According to Wikipedia, 48 percent of Orkut users are from Brazil, followed by 39.2 percent from India.

Orkut was established in California, USA. But in August 2008, Google announced that Orkut will be managed and operated in full in Brazil by Google Brazil. Headquarters Orkut in Brazil was placed in the city of Belo Horizonte. Explore formerly known as Facebox and Bingbox. Explore is a social networking site from Belgium that was originally intended for young Europeans. But in its development, Netlog open to users around the world, and now available in 25 languages.

Netlog was established in July 2003 in Ghent, Belgium, by Toon Coppens and Lorenz Bogaert. In 2009, according to Wikipedia, Netlog has 42 million registered users. Explore, users can create their own web, expand social networks, publishing of music, videos, post blogs and join the group.

Habbo

Habbo formerly known as Habbo Hotel. Habbo is a social networking site aimed at teens. This site is owned and operated by Sulake Corporation. According Wikipedai, Habbo was founded in 2000, and has since expanded to 11 community online. Habbo users spread across 150 countries. In February 2011, more than 203 million avatars (the term for Habbo users) have been registered in Habbo. This site had visitors stay an average of 18 million per month, and each day recorded 100,000 new avatar.

Twitter

Twitter is a site that offers social networking in the form of micro-blogging, allowing users to send and read messages, called chirp (tweets). Chirp is a text containing a maximum of 140 characters text displayed on the user profile pages. All users can send and receive Twitter via Twitter site, compatible external applications (mobile phones), or via short messages (SMS).

Twitter is based in San Bruno, California. Twitter itself was founded in San Francisco. Twitter also has a server and an office in San Antonio, Texas, and Boston, Massachusetts. Since established in 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Twitter has gained popularity worldwide, and currently has more than 100 million users.
