basic change! Two New Elements are Added to the Periodic Table

NEW YORK - The International Committee of chemists and physicists decided to add two new elements of the findings of a number of scientists from Livemore and Russia into the periodic table.

basic change! Two New Elements are Added to the Periodic Table

Both elements were temporarily referred to as elements 114 and 116. Permanent name and symbol for both elements will be chosen later. Similarly, as reported by Yahoo News, Thursday (09/06/2011).

In contrast to other popular elements such as carbon, gold and copper, these two elements do not have the 'age' long. Atoms of element 114 will berdisintegrasi in a few seconds, while the atoms of element 116 will disappear less than one second.

Elements 114 and 116 are found thanks to the collaboration of scientists from the Livemore and Russia. They made this element by splitting atoms of calcium ions into plutonium or other elements, curium. Tests carried out since 2004 and 2006, but new elements are recognized by the international committee last week.

One member of the international committee which recognizes the element it is Paul Karol from Carnegie Mellon University. He claimed a number of new elements have been added to the periodic table once every 2.5 years over the last 250 years.

Although one of the elements are numbered 116, the actual number of elements that are recognized currently only numbered 114. Because the elements 113 and 115 to date have not received official recognition.

Before the two newcomers, the latest element added to the periodic table is called by copernicium element 112, as an honorary tribute to the astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus.
