Da Vinci Surgical Robot solves cancer surgery

World Health Organization, WHO says cancer causes approximately 13% of deaths each year worldwide. Some cancer treatments do not require surgery, but the doctors still need to be examined in more depth organs.

This snake-shaped robot can be operated without major surgery and only need a small hole, said Rob Buckingham, director of OC Robotics. By using this robot, a surgeon can examine the patient's body using robotic cameras and equipment in a very sensitive, he added.

Medical robots can complete robotic surgical system that has been used in the last ten years - Da Vinci machine-developed American company Intuitive Surgical. This machine is sized like a man with a "four hands" and is equipped with a clamp.

Robot can not be used as the primary means of surgery, but help doctors perform complicated operations.

The researchers have developed a snake-shaped robot measuring 30 cm which can be used to detect and remove tumors more effectively. Medical robots are operated by the surgeon is designed to get into the body during this difficult doctors.

This mechanical device including one breakthrough cancer treatment technology on display in the International Conference for Oncology Technology at the University of Leeds, UK. This robot designer, OC Robotics is headquartered in Bristol, said he was confident once agreed, this tool can help lift the tumor patients.

Although still in its early stages, Safia Danovi from Cancer Research UK research agency said innovation and research is vital to deal with this disease.

"Surgery is an important treatment for cancer so the new technology that is more effective detection is also very important," said Danovi.

"Thanks to research, innovations such as surgery to just make a small hole and also the use of robots to help care of cancer patients and this trend continues," he added.
