Why did it happen! No more Apple in San Fransisco

SAN FRANCISCO - Quoted from Mashable, Thursday (7/12/2012), the agency in the city of San Francisco is no longer able to buy Apple products after the removal of environmentally friendly certification. EPEAT is a group that sets standards for environmentally friendly electronic products.

EPEAT requires that the standards set by the consumer product easily dismantled, so that they can move the toxic components such as batteries to establish environmentally friendly products.

However, the latest Apple products can not be easily disassembled, so it can no longer be considered ligkungan friendly products. Meanwhile, a policy in 2007 requires institutions of San Francisco to buy desktops, laptops, and monitors are EPEAT certified 100 percent.

"We're disappointed that Apple chose to withdraw from EPEAT, and we look forward to the statement of this city will not buy another Apple product, Apple will make to participate again," said Director of the San Francisco Department of Environment, Melanie Nutter.

In San Francisco, only one or two percent of the city's computer is a Mac. While in 2010, the city is spending USD45.579 to buy Apple products, compared to USD3, 8 million was spent to buy the whole desktop and laptop computers in the same year.

Apple headquarters in Cupertino, the United States might not be too far from San Francisco, but it did not sell Apple products threatened again in the city. This happened after Apple asked for the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) to remove the product from the list of 39 environmentally friendly products.
