Making best film and images with DLSR Camera

Alex advised that the filmmakers do not be too dazzled by expensive equipment. "Instead of buying a camera that cost so much, much better to buy a less expensive camera and supporting equipment," said Alex when one participant asked him about the tool.

"After all," said Alex, "What determines the 'man behind the camera'. According to Alex, even with a capital of a cheap DSLR too, a person can make a good movie." Later, when the video was finished, no one will know or asked what the camera recorded use. "

DSLR (Digital Single-Lens Reflex) that were previously only used to generate simple pictures and video, are now able to produce a professional video to evolve, even for the production of movies or television shows.

"DSLR cameras streamline workflow so that the entire process of production to show I can be completed in less than 24 hours,".

The man from Portland, United States This is a graduate of USC School of Cinematic Arts has spawned a number of music videos and movies. His work includes the movie Green Street Hooligans, Shanghai Kiss, Bigger Stronger Faster the documentary and short film Johnny Flynton who received an Oscar nomination.

In 1999, Alex joined the Saturday Night Live, the popular TV show on CBS stations that have been aired by more than 700 episodes.

Alex described his experiences in using a DSLR for professional video production.

From Film to Digital and DSLR

First time working with the film unit Saturday Night Live, Alex uses a movie camera to record images in celluloid media. "The production process long and cumbersome," said Alex. He recounts, after recording an image, a roll of film should be before you can develop in-edit.

Then came the camera with a digital format or Mini-DV. Although far more practical than film cameras because the smaller size of the tools and processes that do not need to transfer the film through a long process before it can be edited, Alex was not happy with the mini-DV camera. Why, "the picture quality is not as good as the movie," says Alex.

Less good is the quality of image capture mini-DV, according to Alex, partly due to the small size of the image sensor.

In 2009, after knowing of DSLR photographer Saturday Night Live, Alex began using SLR in the record title sequence to Saturday Night Live. The camera he uses is the EOS 5D Mark II and Canon EOS 7D of the time it has begun to be used for video production because it can record moving images.

The result, "I really like to capture images comparable to film," says Alex. Not only that, it uses Compact Flash media, video transfer process becomes very easy.

CMOS image sensor full-frame and APS-C on the EOS 5D Mark II and EOS 7D much larger than the sensor in the camera video in general, so their sensitivity to light even better. That is, DSLR cameras can be used in dark places without additional lighting.

"First, the video camera should be limited to a maximum ISO level of 400, but with a DSLR, ISO 1600 the image was still clean," said manager Alex, referring to the high level of light sensitivity on the DSLR.

Alex said, he often could use a DSLR to take pictures indoors or in dark places like a nightclub without using additional beacon. "It's very practical and time saving," he added.

Another effect of the larger sensor size is sharply narrower space on DSLR that allows the creation of dramatic effects blur backgorund. "Impression is very cinematic. If the video camera bersensor little difficult because of the sharp space," said Alex.

Even so, a DSLR is not without its flaws. "Because it was not originally designed to record movies, DSLR cameras are not equipped with essential functions such as timecode, headphone output for monitoring, as well as and input (audio) XLR." According to Alex, he often had to improvise on the field to overcome the deficiencies of DSLR's.

During its development, DSLR cameras have started to complement the latest generation of self with a more comprehensive video features. Alex himself is one cinematographer who asked for his opinion on the Canon DSLR in order to make a better video camera. The result was embodied in the Canon EOS C300 and C500 Cinema.

Anyone can

Another of the advantages of a DSLR that is not less important than the conventional video cameras is their small size. For Alex, the size of a DSLR has included "discreet" or inconspicuous. He said the people who recorded did not feel that Alex is making a video. "They thought, because I was carrying a DSLR, I would just take the pictures so they're not too uncomfortable" he said.

Relatively small size also makes it easy to put on any DSLR. DSLR light enough to be held and carried around in a long time, and concise enough to be placed in difficult places. "DSLR can get into places where it is impossible or very difficult to bring a film camera which are very large."

Last but not least, the price is relatively cheap compared to DSLR dedicated video camera. "We had a movie camera for $ 100 thousand dollar (USD 9.4 billion). Compared to these cameras, DSLR look cheap," says Alex.

Because of the price factor, the DSLR so affordable by many people. "This is great because everybody can now create a video, a growing number of voices and stories are also delivered from all over the world."
