SINGAPORE - Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is holding discussions regarding change of domain names that will allow the name brands.

As quoted from Red Orbit, Saturday (18/06/2011), ICANN is expected to approve several new domain names like. Apple. Coke,. Marlboro, at the meeting held in Singapore.

Currently there are only 22 generic domain names like. Com and. Org, plus a domain name such country. Uk or. Cn. Several hundred domains would be present, if ICAAN approved the new domain name system.

This new system of domain name can also be seen as an opportunity for the holders of the brand to add to their existence in cyberspace.

"A company with great brands course must have a domain like this," said Theo Hnarakis, chief executive of a domain registration firm from Australia.

"We recommend that companies buy a domain that uses his own name.

If the plan is approved, the registration will be opened in January at a price of USD185 thousand.

ICANN expects to cities, companies and other communities will soon register a domain with their name.
